ADVENTURE PLAY AREA

Zip Wire

We investigated the existing poles as they go into the ground by digging down 200mm (where rot would be happening) and found the pole to be completely sound with no rot.

As the structure is sound and the height of launch exciting and adventurous it seemed a shame to spend money pulling it out to replace it with something much tamer which is available at most play parks. We have therefore concentrated our energies on making what is there safe to use whilst keeping the sense of excitement which comes from such a high launch point.

We have given an option for a new launch platform and all hardware.

Swing Frame

Made from large Douglas fir logs this uses the principle of covering the vulnerable horizontal beam and post end grain.

We’ve priced for commercial quality 1200mm diameter basket swing to go on the frame. The large diameter basket could be used by disabled people. The site of the swing frame is proposed to be relocated to the main play area for a more concentrated adventure space.

Young play area

We have based this around the tree using a hexagonal platform but with only 3 of the legs coming down to the ground. This adds a bit of visual excitement and minimises any impact on the tree roots. There is a scramble board up to the platform and we propose to use the slide already on site as the way down. We also have some simple balance beams for around the base for the younger children.

The area is fenced off from the path way using rounds of Douglas fir which provide an attractive low fence. We propose use post saver around the bottom of the posts to give them a long lifespan in the ground. This could be painted at a later date if desired but would look great in a natural finish.

Shelter

We have built many structures like this and feel it will offer great value for money and an attractive space for parents and groups to shelter in. This shelter would give the occupants some protection from the weather as well as add some colour to the area with the coloured corrugated roofing.

Mega Tower

As an adventure play area we thought we should go big with what we had left of the budget, high value high things is what Roundwood Design does best so we hope you like it.

The concept was to integrate with the structures already there and offer another level to the play. Kids can ascend and descend from the existing structures to the high tower by 3 different methods. From there they look down on the action happening on the ground level.

The ground level of the tower is linked in with the existing equipment with x2 balance beams. Once at the tower there are six different means of moving around the edge between the small platforms which surround each post or most excitingly a rope, which, with a well-executed swing will take you straight across the middle of the space, landing on an opposite platform.
