Kynren historical reenactment park

Ongoing

Roundwood Design is designing and building a large circular timber structure at Kynren, the historical live-action attraction in County Durham. Measuring 40m in diameter, the building incorporates a 20m open-air section at its centre, with the roof ridge reaching 6m above ground level. The traditional thatched roof is supported by roundpole timber rafters, with the materials and construction style suited to the historically themed setting.

The structure uses larch or Douglas fir timber posts fixed to bespoke galvanised steel feet, which connect the above-ground frame to concrete foundation pads. This detail keeps the timber clear of direct contact with the ground, helping to protect it from moisture and extend the service life of the structure. The first phase of installation was completed during winter and spring 2026. Following a pause over the summer visitor season, the remaining components are being fabricated for installation in autumn and winter 2026.
